- This file goes with version 2.0b of Dungeons. It explains differences
- between 2.0a and 2.0b. As before, Dungeons is now shareware. If you run
- version 2.0 or later, send $20 to:
-
- Eric Johnson
- 6356 Laurentian Ct.
- Flint, MI 48532
-
- New enhancements are contingent upon shareware registrations! It costs
- money for me to support the program via GEnie.
-
- Changes from 2.0a to 2.0b
- =========================
-
- • When the player takes too long to enter input, the program only sends 5
- Control-G's to his terminals, as opposed to a whole bunch as before.
-
- • When a player would lose jousting, the wrong number was displayed for
- the amount of gold that his opponent won. Then number that was displayed
- was his actual amount of gold, not how much he won. He was actually only
- winning 100-200 gold pieces, so don't be alarmed that some players might
- have picked up up on millions and millions of gold pieces.
-
- • You can now control whether or not BBS Names are displayed when a
- player's stats are displayed. If you wish them to be displayed, set
- STR resource 1513 to 'Y' or 'y'. Otherwise players will be more or
- less anonymous. Might be more interesting that way.
-
- • If the attacker of a castle does not leave a message after attacking a
- castle, a snide message concerning that attacker is left instead for the
- attackee to read.
-
- • When gambling, if a player entered an incorrect number or hit a return,
- one was subtracted from his gambles. Now one is subtracted ONLY if he actually
- gambles.
-
- • Players cannot purchase serfs if their castle is in ruins. Before
- players could have thousands of serfs, but couldn't be attacked because
- their castle was in ruins.
-
- • Since Dungeon is now shareware, non-registered sysops will find that
- there is a short message displayed stating that the program is a demo version
- of the program. Once the program is registered, a message will be displayed
- stating that the program is registered, and to what bbs the program is
- registered. How is this done? There are two new STR resources. One
- contains your BBS Name (1498 for you to fill in) and the other (1499)
- contains a long integer. Your BBS Name is hashed, and if the hash number
- matches that in the number resource, the registered version message is
- displayed, otherwise the demo message is displayed. When you send in
- your donation, tell me your BBS Name, your Name, and your BBS phone number,
- and how I can contact you with your hash number. (Preferably GEnie Mail).
- I'll give you a string to put in STR 1498, in the format of:
-
- Your BBS Name ... Sysop Your Name ... (XXX) XXX-XXXX
-
- and I'll give you the hash number for it. Just put these in your running
- version of Dungeons and you'll be in business. These will be good for
- future versions of Dungeons also, unless I change the Hash algorithm, in
- which case I'll contact you with a new hash number.
-
- • If you have already registered, just contact me via GEnie mail (E.JOHNSON)
- and I'll set you up with your string and number.
-
- • Some sysops have reported problems with the events log picking up garbage
- from time to time. I've tightened up the routines a bit so they do more
- error checking when reading and writing, hopefully this will solve the
- problem.
-
- • When quitting to Host or to Finder from the menu with the mouse, all
- events that transpired during that call are now saved. Also, you can't
- quit to host or finder until Dungeons is through loading its stuff in, so
- until everything's loaded, these options will be disabled. This only
- applies to the first few seconds that Dungeons is running.
-
- • The Chat Available menu option is now checkmarked if chat is available,
- and not checkmarked if it's not. Selecting the option toggles it on or off.
-
- Suggestions that were NOT implemented
- =====================================
- Someone wanted the Enter Event thing to cycle in a loop, so that if a player
- hit that option, if he just hit return he'd get the prompt back where he
- had to enter a message again. I decided to leave it this way, as many people
- like to experiment and will hit this option when they don't really want to
- enter a message. This way just hitting a return gets them out of it painlessly.
- If they really do want to enter a message, with the HotMenus it's really no
- trouble to hit that option again.
-
- Even though I decided not to change these, I really appreciate the suggestions!
- Please keep them coming!
-
-
- Until Next time...
-
